FM delivers message from President Sisi to his Angolan counterpart

CAIRO, Dec 12 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty on Friday delivered a message from President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to his Angolan counterpart João Lourenço.

During their meeting, Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s deep appreciation for the strong ties between the two countries and their shared commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Tamim Khallaf said the minister congratulated President Lourenço on Angola’s successful chairmanship of the African Union in 2025, as well as the significant achievement of hosting the 7th Africa–EU Summit, one of the key platforms for cooperation between Africa and its international partners.

He reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to continued collaboration and close coordination with Angola on regional and international issues.

Abdelatty also congratulated Angola on the success of the Infrastructure Financing Summit held in Luanda in October 2025, underscoring Egypt’s interest, under President Sisi’s chairmanship of the NEPAD Steering Committee, in strengthening coordinated efforts to mobilize financing for continental infrastructure projects.

The spokesperson added that the minister highlighted the strong momentum in bilateral relations in recent months, particularly following President Lourenço’s visit to Cairo in April 2025.

He noted Egypt’s keenness to convene the Joint Committee this year to follow up on cooperation priorities and the outcomes of reciprocal visits, including President Sisi’s visit to Angola in 2023.

The minister stressed Egypt’s interest in activating the memoranda of understanding signed in communications and information technology, housing and infrastructure, and the mutual exemption from drug registration.

He also referred to agreements reached within the Joint Committee to enhance cooperation in health and pharmaceuticals, supporting Angola’s efforts to achieve the WHO’s Maturity Level 3 (ML3).

He reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to supporting Angola’s development agenda.

Abdelatty expressed the strong interest of Egyptian companies in expanding investments in projects linked to the “Lobito Corridor”, a major EU/US-backed infrastructure project to upgrade the Lobito Atlantic Railway (LAR) connecting the Angolan port of Lobito to the mineral-rich Copperbelt of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Zambia, and other strategic corridors in Angola.

He underlined Egyptian companies’ extensive experience in implementing major infrastructure projects in Africa, noting that a study is under way to establish a consortium of Egyptian companies to participate in Lobito Corridor projects, which will support development and improve transport and logistics networks.

Shifting to regional cooperation, the minister underscored Egypt’s commitment to continued coordination with Angola to ensure the success of its AU chairmanship during this critical juncture for the continent.

He stressed the shared commitment of both countries to peace, stability and sustainable development through African-led solutions to African challenges.

He also praised President Lourenço’s role as AU Champion for Peace and Reconciliation, noting its complementarity with President Sisi’s role as AU Champion for Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development.

The minister commended the close coordination between the two countries on AU issues, particularly matters related to peace and security in the Horn of Africa, Sudan, eastern DR Congo and the Sahel.

He stressed the importance of intensifying consultations to support efforts aimed at achieving security and stability amid ongoing political transitions in several African states.

Abdelatty concluded by reiterating Egypt’s firm position in support of preserving state sovereignty and the unity of national institutions, prioritizing political solutions to crises and rejecting external interference in African affairs.

He also underscored Egypt’s rejection of unilateral measures in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea that could heighten tensions or threaten regional security.

For his part, President Lourenço expressed his deep appreciation for President Sisi and affirmed his pride in the brotherly relations between the two countries.

He welcomed the ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation and voiced his keenness to continue working with Egypt to deepen the partnership in all fields. (MENA)
