The tourist thoroughfare in the Kerdasa district of Giza witnessed a violent hit-and-run incident involving a private vehicle bearing an Israeli flag decal.
The driver reportedly plowed into several pedestrians, injuring five people and causing significant damage to multiple vehicles while attempting to flee the scene. The incident has sparked widespread controversy on social media following the circulation of video footage capturing the event.
Giza security authorities reviewed the footage, which shows local residents pursuing the 34-year-old defendant, identified as an agricultural engineer. During his high-speed attempt to escape the area, the driver collided with several private cars and two motorcycles, resulting in the reported injuries.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident began as a verbal altercation between the driver and the owners of a clothing store. The dispute arose when the shopkeepers refused to allow him to park his vehicle in front of their premises. The confrontation escalated into an exchange of insults before the defendant fled in his vehicle, which displayed an Israeli flag sticker—an act that further incensed the local crowd.
In a state of agitation, the young man attempted to escape at high speed, striking pedestrians, parked cars, and the gate of a residential building. Residents eventually managed to intercept the driver and hand him over to the Kerdasa Police Station.
Security forces have impounded both the suspect and the vehicle. Forensic teams examined the car, noting extensive damage resulting from the multiple collisions.
Detectives also took statements from the injured victims, who reported being blindsided by the driver as he maneuvered recklessly through the crowded street. Legal proceedings have been initiated as authorities continue their investigation to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the event.
