Activists protest removal of Raml Station bookshops

Several activists and intellectuals in Alexandria staged a protest with books on Saturday, outside small bookstores that had been destroyed at al-Raml Station.

The group established a Facebook page to demand the return of the bookshops and their owners, urging they be issued licenses.

Images of books that had been thrown on the ground during the removal of the small kiosks were posted on the page. The protesters described the bookstores as part of Alexandria's history.

The kiosk owners met with Prime Minister Sherif Ismail during his tour in Alexandria to denounce the removal of their shops.
