Airport blockade ends in Marsa Alam, tourists released

Security forces in Marsa Alam have released 281 tourists who were detained after locals blocked the road, preventing the groups from going to the airport or nearby resorts.

The conflict allegedly arose due to a disagreement between locals and the staff of a nearby gas station, after which members of the tribe of Al-Ababdah from Marsa Alam blocked the road to the airport in retaliation.

They prevented 2 buses of tourists; one Italian group leaving the airport, and also one group from Poland trying to enter the airport.

After being released, security services accompanied the tourists to the airport and the resorts.Security sources were able to remove the blockade through negotiations with the tribe members.
