Maddox Jolie-Pitt, the eldest son of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, has decided to officially drop the Pitt surname from his name.
He is their eldest adopted child, having been adopted by Angelina in 2002 and then by Pitt in 2006. Currently 24 years old, he has chosen to sever ties with his estranged father.
Reports indicate that he will now be known as Maddox Shivan Jolie going forward.
A new report on TMZ suggests that the reason for this change is his desire to distance himself further from Pitt, out of love for Angelina.
The news of his legal name change came shortly after Maddox’s participation in Angelina’s latest film, “Couture,” in which he worked as an assistant director.
He decided to have his name written as Maddox Jolie instead of Maddox Pitt, and then decided to pursue the matter legally.
Maddox is not the first of his siblings to drop the Pitt surname, as Shiloh Jolie preceded him by legally changing her name, and sisters Zahara and Vivienne Jolie also officially dropped the Pitt surname.
Two of Jolie and Pitt’s children still use the Pitt surname, but they have not revealed whether they are considering dropping it in the future.
