Antiquities Minister inaugurates illumination of Ramesseum, 3 tombs in Luxor

Antiquities Minister Mamdouh al-Damaty is inaugurating the illumination of the Ramesseum and the tombs of Ramses IV, Ramses VI and Seti I in Luxor on Saturday.

Damaty said in a statement Thursday that this is part of an overall project to protect the archeological sites in Luxor with both lights and surveillance cameras. “It promotes tourism, as tourists would be able to visit the sites in the evening,” he said. “They would be open until 11 pm in the summer and until 9 pm in winter.”

Mahmoud Afifi of the Antiquities Ministry said the project used modern lighting systems. "It was funded by a loan from Spain,” he said.
