April 6 movement urges participation in ‘Friday of Persistence’

The April 6 Youth Movement on Monday urged Egyptians nationwide to participate in the "Friday of Persistence" protests scheduled for 8 July.

The movement will continue to call for participation to ensure that the demands of the revolution are met, said Islam al-Hadary, the April 6 Youth Movement's general coordinator in Alexandria.

He said "Bread, freedom and dignity," one of the slogans of the revolution, highlights the demands that are the most important for ordinary citizens. He said they are more pressing than forming a new constitution or conducting elections.

The movement also organized silent protests in Alexandria for a second consecutive day, said a statement it posted on the internet.

Protesters called for expediting the trials of security personnel charged with killing protesters during the 25 January revolution. They carried banners reading "The people want to clean the country" and "We want them punished…. They killed our brothers."

The statement said protests will take place today in the Alexandrian districts of Victoria and Sidi Gaber, having previously been staged in Agamy.

The movement distributed more than 3000 leaflets to urge participation in today's protests, the statement said.
