April 6 youth vow to secure Friday demo

The April 6 Youth Movement has promised to secure a demonstration planned for Friday in Cairo's Tahrir Square.

A statement published on the group's website said that activists would be fully responsible for securing the venue and apprehending trouble-makers.

Activists had called for a Friday protest to voice objection to any attempt to pardon ousted president Hosni Mubarak or other figures suspected of corruption. Participating groups reject unilateral action by the ruling military council and demand to be included in the decision-making process.

"In preparation for the 27 May protest, were are inviting the armed forces to take responsibility for protecting the country and its property, and adopt on iron hand in tackling those who intend to destabilize the situation on Friday", the statement said.

Protests at Tahrir Sqaure have witnessed tussles since March. Revolutionaries blamed the disorder on former members of the disbanded National Democratic Party, which governed Egypt during former President Hosni Mubarak’s 30-year rule.
