Army spokesperson: 3 extremists killed in North Sinai raid

The armed forces spokesperson Ahmed Ali announced on Tuesday the killing of three extremists and the arrest of 52 others during a raid in the cities of Sheikh Zuwaid, Arish, and Rafah, North Sinai.

The three killed were implicated in the recent attack on a bus for policemen in North Sinai, according to Ali.

The killed hid on a hill in order to remotely detonate a bomb they planted at al-Shallaq village entrance, and record the operation by a camera to show the inability of the second field army to control the security situation in North Sinai, Ali wrote on his Facebook page.

Fifty-two others, including a Palestinian who was allegedly carrying over LE11,000, were arrested, he added.

Ali also said an explosive device planted next to the Electricity Company of Arish was defused during the raid.

"Fourteen huts used by terrorist elements as launching pads to carry out attacks against personnel of the army and police were burned, three cars and six motorcycles without license plates, and five tunnels in Rafah were destroyed," he wrote.
