Military spokesperson Ahmed Mohamed Ali said there is no electoral campaign for Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
“We found some people in Gharbiya and Beni Suef collecting contributions to support Sisi,” he said. “We warn of such practices.”
“The army does not interfere in this matter at all,” he said. “Sisi’s candidacy is a personal decision.”
Sisi’s candidacy became almost certain after the ratification of the presidential elections law.
According to press reports, the schedule of the elections will be announced in a few days.
