Aswan governor: Sharaf to discuss resettlement project with Nubian leaders

Prime Minister Essam Sharaf will meet with a delegation of 31 Nubian leaders after Eid al-Fitr, 30 August, to review Nubians’ demand to return to the banks of  Lake Nasser and receive compensation for having been relocated in the first place, said Mostafa al-Sayyed, Aswan’s governor.

During talks with Nubian leaders representing Konouz and Fadiga villages on Wednesday, Sayyed added that the meeting will include Nubians living inside and outside Egypt.

According to the minister, the resettlement project, which will be carried out by the Supreme Council for the Armed Forces and the Housing Ministry in Karkar Valley, represents a first step toward restoring Nubians’ rights.

Another step is building housing units for Nubians in the Khour Qandi Area, with total costs estimated at LE2 billion, he added.
