The balance of trade deficit rose to LE15.8 billion in July 2010 compared to 13.4 percent in the same month last year, according to Egypt's Central Authority for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

Imports climbed to LE28.3 billion in July 2010, compared to LE23.3 billion during the same period last year.

CAPMAS said that imports of petroleum products, primary plastics, wood and wooden products, and chemical substances have increased considerably.

According to CAPMAS statistics, exports also increased to LE14.4 billion in July 2010 compared to LE9.9 billion in the same period last year, marking a 25.7 percent increase in exports.

CAPMAS attributed the rise to the increase in exports of petroleum, ready wear, fertilizers and flat-rolled products.
