Cairo Prosecution detains father for beating his young daughter to death

Investigation authorities in Cairo have ordered the 4-day detention of a worker in his fifties, pending further investigation, on charges of beating his young daughter to death.

During initial questioning immediately following his arrest, the accused father stated that he had been embroiled in an ongoing dispute with his wife, who had moved out of the marital home a while ago to live with her family.

On the day of the incident, the father discovered that his 13-year-old daughter was copying messages from his mobile phone and sending them to her mother. Enraged, he beat her severely in an attempt to “discipline” her. She collapsed and passed away right before his eyes; he initially believed she had merely fainted and tried to revive her, calling an ambulance to rush her to the hospital, but she was already dead.

The El-Salam First Police Station was notified by the Ain Shams General Hospital regarding the arrival of the body of a 13-year-old girl, who resided within the station’s jurisdiction. A preliminary examination of the body revealed bruises and abrasions across her body.

Investigations identified the father as the perpetrator. Upon his arrest, he confessed to the crime, citing ongoing family disputes with his wife—who had left the home and is currently living in Minya Governorate—and noting that his daughter was regularly communicating with her mother and reporting everything happening on his phone.
