A number of political parties and revolutionary movements have announced a candlelight vigil in front of the Radio and Television building on Wednesday evening to commemorate the martyrs of the Maspero events of 2011.
They asked participants to wear black and raise pictures of the martyrs.
They will demand transitional justice, freedom of religion, criminalization of discrimination and incitement, and the issuance of a more consistent law on houses of worship.
They also welcomed the participation of supporters of both former President Mohamed Morsy and Hosni Mubarak.
Expected to participate are: the Socialist Popular Alliance Party, the Social Democratic Party of Egypt, the Revolutionary Path Front, the Six April Movement’s Democratic Front, the Egyptians Against Religious Discrimination Movement, and the Free Egyptian Movement.
Ahmed Fawzy, secretary general of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party, said crimes against Coptic Christians were committed on that day. “Members of the former supreme military council must be brought to account so as not to tarnish the reputation of the armed forces,” he said.
