Chief of psychiatric hospital removed following heat wave deaths

The Health Ministry has removed the director of a major psychiatric hospital from his post following the death of patients under his care during the heatwave that claimed the lives of at least 100 people throughout Egypt since early August.

Mostafa Shehata, head of the Al-Khanka Mental Health hospital in Qalyubiya stepped away from his post on Saturday as it was discovered that 10 patients had died and 16 others had fallen sick due to heat exhaustion.

Shehata admitted there were a lack of amenities at the hospital, adding that the hospital possesses one vehicle that is not suitable for transporting patients.
