Conditions set for Egyptians to obtain foreign nationality explained

The Egyptian law allows citizens to be granted permission to naturalize a foreign nationality while retaining their Egyptian nationality and that makes them exempt from military service.

Al-Masry Al-Youm answers how the Egyptian expatriates obtain the approval of the Egyptian authorities to obtain permission to naturalize a foreign national while retaining the Egyptian nationality.

The citizen applies to the consular section and fills out the prepared form accurately and attaches with it a set of documents, which are (a true copy of the Egyptian birth certificate and a true copy of the Egyptian birth certificate of the father of the concerned person or one of the uncles or aunts, to prove that the grandfather is Egyptian, a true copy of the first pages of the valid Egyptian passport, a true copy of the Egyptian ID card, a true copy of the first pages of a valid foreign passport, a true copy of the naturalization certificate of foreign nationality, if any, in addition to the husband’s approval of the wife to naturalize the foreign nationality and four photos).

The response of the Ministry of Interior takes about six weeks or more, while the Egyptian consulate reviews the submitted documents and then sends it to the Passports, Immigration and Nationality Department of the ministry.
