The South Cairo Compensation Appeals Court postponed on Tuesday the appeal submitted by three policemen against a ruling that ordered them and former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly to pay compensation for the beating of a student.
A court had ordered them to pay LE75,000 in compensation to Shady Maged Saad. The officers were accused of detaining him inside the 6th of October City Police Station and beating him.
The appeals court adjourned the case to 5 December to file the case documents.
Saad had filed a lawsuit demanding LE500,000 in compensation for the harm he suffered from. But a misdemeanor court had sentenced the officers to one month in prison for detaining Saad without having the right to do so.
Saad then filed another lawsuit at the Compensation Appeals Court, which ordered him to be paid LE75,000.
Attorney General Abdel Meguid Mahmoud received a report from Saad in which he accused the officers of detaining him along with his family at the police station and assaulting him.
Mahmoud then referred them to the court that ordered their imprisonment.
