Court adjourns Nazif, Adly trial to Tuesday

Cairo Criminal Court postponed on Saturday retrial of former Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif and former Interior Minister Habib al-adly, involved in the metal panel lawsuit, to Tuesday to hear pleadings of prosecution and defense.

Court held three previous sessions with attendance of Adly. His defense then submitted request to Justice Minister to change the trial place to Police Academy. Approval was made on Saturday.

Both face charges of squandering public funds through imported car license plates.

On 13 July 2011, Criminal Court gave Nazif a suspended sentence of one year in prison, while Adly received five years in prison. Former Finance Minister Youssef Boutros-Ghali was also handed a 10-year sentence in absentia. The legal representative of German license plate manufacturer, UTSCH, also received a suspended 18-month sentence. They were all ordered to return LE92 million and fined them with the same amount. Court of Cassation then approved challenge by Adly and Nazif against the ruling.
