Court imprisons sons of Egyptian film producer Sobky to 15 years over drug charges

The Cairo Criminal Court on Saturday sentenced the sons of acclaimed Egyptian film producer Ahmed al-Sobky to 15 years in prison and a fine of LE50,000 each over drug charges.

The two defendants, Karim and Khaled al-Sobky, had been referred to criminal trial by the Public Prosecution and were later released on LE10,000 bail each pending investigations into possessing narcotics.

Sobky’s sons were detained last September while attending the wedding of actor Ahmed Fahmy and actress Hana Zahid. They were pulled over by a security checkpoint near the wedding ceremony held at Qasr al-Nil, Cairo.

Upon searching their car, authorities found several packets of heroin.
