Court postpones trial of police officer accused of shooting protesters

Cairo Criminal Court on Sunday postponed the trial of a police officer accused of shooting anti-Mubarak protesters during the Egyptian uprising last winter. The case has been postponed to 11 January.

The accused is an unnamed police officer, who is alleged to have shot protesters at random outside Salam City police station on 28 January, the day of massive protests dubbed the "Day of Rage". Several protesters were injured by gunfire outside the police station, and one died.

Attorney General Abdel Meguid Mahmoud referred the accused to Cairo Criminal Court after initial investigations suggested the police officer's involvement in the incident.

The case was postponed on Sunday after the defense team asked to hear the testimonies of the prosecution witnesses.
