Court resumes trial of Morsy, others over espionage

Cairo Criminal Court resumed on Wednesday the trial sessions of toppled President Mohamed Morsy and 35 other suspects affiliated to the Muslim Brotherhood over spying for foreign authorities, disclosing national security secrets and coordination with jihadist organizations to carry out terrorist acts in Egypt.

The court suspended on 27 February the sessions after suspects Mohamed al-Beltagy and Safwat Hegazy submitted request demanding judge replacement. The request was rejected on Wednesday saying the reasons cited by the suspects did not warrant a replacement.
