Egypian heritage sites open for free on Saturday

The Egyptian archaeological sites registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List will receive visitors on Saturday free of charge, as part of the April 18 celebration of the International Day for Monuments and Sites.
 
Antiquities Minister Mamdouh al-Damaty said the step comes in the framework of the ministry's plan to promote archaeological sites in various parts of the country.
 
The historic sites registered on the UNESCO heritage list, include: Old Cairo, Giza and Luxor monuments, Abu Simbel Temple in Aswan, St. Catherine in South Sinai and the Abu Mina monument in Alexandria, Damaty said.
 
The ministry wishes to spreading awareness of the importance of these places among various age groups and social classes, he added.
 
The minister called on lthose interested in the Egyptian civilization and the cultural heritage of Egypt to celebrate this day on one of the sites listed on the Heritage List.
