Egypt bans entrance of Japanese spare parts

Egyptian Airport’s cargo village on Monday prohibited importing ship parts from Japan due to fears of nuclear radiation.

Hamdy al-Qady, head of the cargo village, said any goods arriving from Japan are reviewed by experts of the Atomic Energy Authority to measure radiation level.

Qady told Al-Masry Al-Youm that a few days ago, the atomic energy office refused entrance of ceramic powder due to high radiation levels.

However, Egypt’s Ministry of Agriculture in March decided to impose restrictions on food imports from Japan and neighboring countries, amid fears of nuclear leakage resulting from the Fukushima nuclear reactor explosion that followed Japan’s earthquake and tsunami on 10 March.

Meanwhile, Egypt’s Health Ministry has banned, from Japan and the neighboring countries, the entrance of any drugs, chemicals or substances used in making drugs.
