Egypt did not receive compensation for Qatar World Cup support, EFA head says

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) on Wednesday rejected media reports suggesting it received compensation for supporting Qatar in the 2022 World Cup bid.

Head of EFA, Samir Zaher, said the coverage taints an impending friendly match between the Egyptian and Qatari national teams.

Hani Abu Reida, member of the executive committee of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), said he voted for Qatar at the behest of president Hosni Mubarak.

Zaher called on Anas al-Fiqqi, Minister of Information, and Osama al-Sheikh, head of Egyptian Radio and Television Union (ERTU), to immediately intervene to stop such coverage.

Egypt’s coaching crew takes the game with Qatar seriously, according to Zaher, considering it an important preliminary battle before meeting South Africa for a Wold Cup qualifier.
