Egypt intel chief, Netanyahu discuss peace process, Israel’s border wall

Egyptian Intelligence Chief Omar Suleiman on Thursday will fly to Israel to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with whom he is expected to discuss the stalled peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority (PA).

Informed sources said Suleiman would relay to Netanyahu a message from PA President Mahmoud Abbas. Last Thursday, Suleiman met with Abbas in Jordan.

Sources also said Suleiman would inform the Israeli PM about Cairo’s position on the security wall that Israel intends to build along its border with Egypt.

The PA last month decided to suspend direct talks with the self-proclaimed Jewish state four months after they were launched under the auspices of the United States. The decision came as a response to Israel's ongoing refusal to freeze settlement construction on occupied Palestinian land.

In related news, Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit on Wednesday met with his Slovenian counterpart, briefing the latter on how “Israeli intransigence" had adversely affected Euro-Mediterranean relations.

Slovenian Foreign Minister Samuel Zbogar is currently in Cairo to prepare for a scheduled visit by the Slovenian president early next year.
