Egypt raises health readiness to maximum alert as pilgrims return

Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, announced that preventive readiness has been raised to its maximum alert level across all health stations at air, sea, and land ports of entry. This aligns with the beginning of the return of pilgrims after performing the Hajj rituals, and comes as part of an integrated plan to bolster health security and safeguard public health.

Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry, explained that the elevated readiness takes effect starting from the second day of Eid al-Adha. He noted that round-the-clock medical teams have been reinforced, qualified personnel have been deployed, and all necessary preventive supplies and modern screening equipment have been provided at all entry points.

The spokesperson emphasized that the plan includes conducting rigorous health screenings on all arriving pilgrims, along with a mandatory requirement to complete health monitoring cards to track their health status once they arrive at their places of residence.

Furthermore, coordination has been established with EgyptAir to conduct preventive screenings on board incoming flights to expedite entry procedures and reduce overcrowding, while ensuring the early detection of any suspected cases.

The plan also entails providing immediate emergency medical services and dealing swiftly with any medical cases in accordance with approved protocols, in addition to intensifying health awareness for pilgrims regarding symptoms that warrant immediately going to the hospital and reporting their arrival date.

The official spokesperson stressed the commitment of quarantine authorities to obligating airlines and shipping agencies to carry out spraying and disinfection procedures on incoming transport vehicles immediately upon arrival, in line with international standards of the World Health Organization (WHO), to ensure comprehensive and safe prevention.
