Egypt wins African Union’s Peace and Security Council membership

Egypt has won the membership of the African Union's Peace and Security Council and will represent North Africa for the next three years.

Elections took place on Thursday during meetings between African foreign ministers in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa.

Cairo now enjoys membership of the African Union’s PSC and the UN Security Council.

“Egypt grabbed 47 votes out of the total 52 member countries, which makes Egypt a member for the next three years,” said an African diplomatic source on the sidelines of the AU’s executive board meetings.
