“Even the West will lose after Morsy’s ouster,” warns al-Beltagy

Mohamed al-Beltagy, a Muslim Brotherhood leader, accused the U.S. and the European Union (E.U.) of supporting tyranny and suppression, and added that President Mohamed Morsy's ouster will push Islamists to use violence which will eventually harm the West as well.

Beltagy said that U.S. recognition of the Egyptian army's post-Morsy map is recognition of the rule of the jungle.

In an interview with Reuters on Sunday, Beltagy added that everyone will lose, including the West, as a result of Morsy’s ouster from power.

Morsy, Egypt’s first president to be elected in free elections, completed only one year of his four-year presidential term before being removed from power following massive protests against his rule.

Beltagy accused the international community of supporting what he termed the "military coup" in Egypt, saying: "We feel that the international community is interfering in some way in the scene by recognising and supporting that military coup."

"This makes the people in the region regard the U.S. and Europe once again as the supporters of tyranny and suppression. They believe they stand against the interests of nations which restore feelings of hatred towards European people and Americans whose regimes always support tyrannical regimes."

Beltagy said that the Brotherhood will not resort to violence but added that other Islamists may opt for the use of force.

"When they see that the democratic experience has been crushed in one year and that institutions are of no value, others could become desperate and use violence. At this point, everyone will lose, including foreign powers,” Beltagy warned.

The U.S. and the E.U. have refrained from describing the miltiary's roadmap as a military coup, which could have led to the imposition of sanctions on Egypt. Also, neither of them has condemned the unseating of Morsy.
