Ex-interior minister’s trial on money laundering adjourned to 16 January

The Cairo Criminal Court postponed on Sunday the trial of former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly regarding money laundering charges to 16 January in order to hear pleas.

The prosecutor had previously sent Adly to court for abusing his power as an interior minister by instructing his subordinates at the ministry as well as officials of al-Nakheel association to build housing units for policemen and find the highest-paying buyers for his plot at Nakheel resort before the end of the designated building period.

In May 2011, the Giza Criminal Court sentenced Adly to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined him LE4.9 million for money laundering amounting to LE4,513,000.
