
CAIRO, Dec 7 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s firm strategic commitment to supporting Somalia and promoting security and stability in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region, saying this support is essential for development and for consolidating regional peace.
Abdelatty made the remarks during a meeting on Sunday with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on the sidelines of the Doha Forum, where the two discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and advance their strategic partnership.
The minister said Egypt values the deep historical ties and strong relations it shares with Somalia, praising the positive momentum in bilateral cooperation, reflected in high-level visits and mutual efforts to expand economic, development and investment cooperation.
Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s continued support for building Somali national capacities, particularly in counterterrorism, security stabilization and strengthening state institutions so they can assert authority across all Somali territory.
The two sides also reviewed arrangements related to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
Abdelatty emphasized Egypt’s active contribution to efforts aimed at enhancing the Somali state’s capabilities and helping it extend full sovereignty and achieve comprehensive stability.
The two sides reiterated their commitment to continued close coordination in support of security, stability and development, and agreed to move forward with implementing joint cooperation programs under their strategic partnership. (MENA)
