FM source derides US officials for meddling in Egyptian internal affairs

A Foreign ministry official on Thursday lambasted US officials for allegedly sidestepping traditional routes of communications and meeting with members of an Egyptian activist organization, The Working group on Egypt, to discuss the country's internal affairs.

“This is unacceptable American action towards the strong reasoned Egyptian reservations on the way American administration deals with internal Egyptian affairs generally and with this group claiming interest in Egyptian affairs especially,” the source told reporters.

The official accused the American representatives of flagrant meddling.

“No one, including US, will be allowed to interfere within its affairs,” said source said. “US officials seem to not respect Egyptian society's privacy through its provoking statements.”

“Knowing members of the so-called working group on Egypt is enough to reveal objectives and agendas," the source continued. "They are a group of Americans who think they are aware of other societies either through reports made by their followers who have their own agendas or through travels and meetings. They are the same kind of groups that target spreading rumors in the Middle East considering nothing other than their narrow agendas.”

The Working group on Egypt presses for democratic and human rights reform in Egypt.
