Food prices rise in July

The prices of food commodities rose in July in comparison to June, according to a monthly government report the Central Agency of Public Mobilization and Statistics released Wednesday.

The price of a kilogram of sugar rose from LE5.24 in June to LE5.84 in July, an 11.5 percent increase, according to the report.

Rice prices increased to LE 5.38 per kilo, up 10.25 percent from LE4.88; Eggs to LE0.63, up 5 percent from LE0.6 per egg; meat to LE57.11, up 2.2 percent from LE55.86 per kilo.

Compared to the year before, the price of a kilogram of tomatoes has almost doubled, reaching LE3.9 a kilo in July compared to LE2.05.

The price of onions has also climbed to LE4.11, a 57.7 percent rise compared to a year before.
