Four police officers released following investigation into death of Salafi

Alexandria's prosecution released two officers of the dissolved State Security Investigation Services on Thursday after questioning them regarding the death of Sayed Belal, a Salafi who died in detention during investigations into the bombing of the Two Saints Church in Alexandria on New Year’s Eve.

The prosecution had summoned Major General Yehia Haggag, who was responsible for the religious activity department of the dissolved service in Alexandria, and Major Hussein Belal, who was in charge of Salafi activities.

It had also released Major Haitham Mekawy and Major Samir Sabri after questioning about the same case.

The family of the deceased accuses the officers of torturing Belal to death.

On Monday the prosecution summoned Major General Tarek al-Mogy, who oversaw the investigation of the church bombing, to hear his testimony.
