Govt cracks down on traffic violators

The government tihs weekend was busy doling out tickets for traffic violators in an attempt to reign in reckless drivers.
 
Ismailia Traffic Department arrested 100 drivers under the influence of drugs in a crackdown in cooperation with the Health Ministry. Claims were filed with the incidents and the prosecution took over investigations.
 
Head of Minya Security Directorate Ossama Metwally has also referred five drivers under the influence of drugs to the prosecutor.
 
In Gharbiya, 171 drivers under the influence of drugs were arrested. 
 
Daqahlia Security Directorate in coordination with the armed forces launched a crackdown on Saturday and detected 1,361 traffic violations on Mansoura streets. Twenty-six cars, motorcycles and tuk-tuks without number plates have been seized. The crackdown collected LE24,660 fines. 
 
The Traffic Management launched in coordination with different security directorates crackdowns on highways in governorates.
 
Authorities have registered 22,020 traffic violations, 1,202 of those violations being for speeding. Forty-three vehicles have been towed for parking in wrong areas on squares and streets.
 
A statement by the Interior Ministry, on Saturday afternoon, said the crackdown came upon the directives of Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim to enforce traffic discipline.
 
This comes during recent news that, three family members were killed and 12 others injured in a collision between a private car and a microbus on Sohag-Red Sea highway. The dead and injured were transferred to nearby hospitals, a claim was filed with the incident, and the prosecution took over investigations.
 
In Qaliubiya, a 13-year-old student also died after she fell out of a bus when the door opened suddenly on Khosous ring road, according to investigators.
