Govt: Tourism up 4.4% in June

Tourism to Egypt increased by 4.4 percent in June, according to a government report which said the number surged from 785,900 in June 2014 to 820,000 in June of this year.

Eastern Europe was the source of 47 percent of that boost, according to a report from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics. Russians accounted for 67.9 percent of tourists coming from that region, the report noted.

Tourists from Western Europe came second at 31.1 percent, with German tourists representing the largest number from that region (30.7 percent).

“The number of nights spent by departing tourists reached 7.7 million nights in June 2015, compared to 6.8 million nights during the same month in 2014, an increase of 13.7 percent,” it added.

The report, however, detects a decline in Arab visitors compared to European ones.

“The number of arriving tourists from Arab countries reached 135,600 tourists in June 2015, compared to 149,900 tourists in June 2014, a decrease of 9.5 percent.”
