Egypt is changing profoundly and the Palestinian people are the first to reap the benefits, prominent Hamas leader Mahmoud al-Zahar has said.
But he said Palestinians will be the first losers if new crises hit Egypt.
In an interview with Hamas-run Al-Aqsa TV, Zahar said the changes taking place in Egypt will lead it to a better future and to the adoption of “major projects, including the liberation of the whole of Palestine.”
Zahar said the transformations in Egypt have helped Hamas because the Rafah border crossing is currently open six days a week and four additional hours every day.
Zahar dismissed claims that some Hamas members broke into Egyptian prisons or shot fire at revolutionaries as false.
“Icons from the former regime tried to harm Hamas by spreading those lies,” he said.
