High Elections Commission finds Sabbahi violated election rules

Abdel Aziz Salman, secretary general of the High Elections Commission, said on Saturday that the commission reviewed presidential hopeful Hamdeen Sabbahi's conference on Wednesday after a complaint was filed over his conference on Wednesday saying it was not targeted campaigning and found that Sabbahi had violated election regulations.

The commission reviewed a video of Sabbahi's press conference on Wednesday, during which Sabbahi shared features of his electoral platform. It then said that Sabbahi violated the provisions of electoral campaigning.

The commission declared that it would take legal measures against Sabbahi for violating the elections schedule, which stipulated that campaigning would begin 3 May.

Salman indicated the necessity for candidates to respect laws and avoid any violations in order for the presidential race to be transparent. He also said that publicity was considered valid as long as candidates filed their documents.
