Interior Ministry says Muslim Brotherhood ‘terrorist cell’ arrested in Daqahliya

Security services arrested a terrorist cell in Daqahliya, allegedly planning to kill opponents of the Muslim Brotherhood in the governorate, according to the Interior Ministry.

In a statement issued Sunday, the ministry said it arrested an armed person who participated in a group attack on a store owner. The group was wearing masks, according to a report filed.

Authorities say the arrested suspect admitted his affiliation to the Muslim Brotherhood while under questioning. He also confessed that he and others formed a terrorist cell in Mansoura to seek vengeance against people known for hating the group, according to the statement, and that he received military training while in Gaza on targeting pivotal establishments, using various weapons and creating chaos and instability.

The suspect added that the group participating in the attack belonged to the terrorist cell, and that they had been attempting to murder the store owner for being an opponent of the Brotherhood and inciting popular opinion against marches.

The suspect added that he, along with others, fired shots from nearby the governorate office building, leaving two injured.

According to the statement, the suspect admitted to other violent acts committed against those rallying to counter Brotherhood protests, such as fired birdshot shells at a march in front of a mosque on Port Said Street and killed a car trader in Mansoura with the help of others for rallying against the Brotherhood protests.

Legal measures were taken against the suspect. Intensified security efforts are underway to arrest his alleged co-conspirators.
