Interior Ministry urges pro-Morsy protesters to end sit-ins

The Interior Ministry issued Thursday a statement calling on protesters at Rabaa al-Adaweya and al-Nahda squares to end their sit-ins, promising a safe exit for them without prosecution.

Information Minister Dorreya Sharaf Eddin said Wednesday that the Cabinet had commissioned the interior minister to take legal measures to break up the sit-ins at Rabaa and Nahda squares.

Sharaf Eddin summarized in a press conference Wednesday a brief statement issued by the Cabinet of interim Prime Minister Hazem al-Beblawy: "The continuance of the grave situation at Rabaa and al-Nahda squares and the subsequent acts of terror, intimidation, and blocking of roads is no longer acceptable, as this situation poses a threat to Egyptian national security."

Supporters of toppled President Mohamed Morsy have been protesting at Rabaa al-Adaweya Square, in Cairo, and al-Nahda Square, in Giza, for over a month.
