Iraqi minister invites Egyptians to invest in Iraq

Iraq’s transportation minister has urged Egyptian companies to invest in Iraq, saying the country holds major investment opportunities for them.

Hadi al-Ameri said he discussed the issue with Egyptian Transportation Minister Galal al-Saeed on Saturday in Amman.

“We have high hopes. And we will be extremely happy to see Egyptian companies in Baghdad,” said Ameri, adding that Egyptian investments in Iraq will increase trade between the two countries.

He downplayed the security threats in Iraq, saying, “These fears existed in the past, but after the breakout of Arab Spring revolution, the security challenges have become the same in Egypt, Libya, Syria and other countries.”

The security situation in Iraq has greatly improved, he said.

He said it is sad that while foreign ambassadors from France, Britain Germany, Italy and the US are present in Iraq, Arab ambassadors are absent on the pretext that the security situation is poor.

Egyptian workers were present in large numbers in Iraq, he said, adding that they played a key role in the country.
