Israel’s forced displacement plans threaten to widen conflict: FM to top US senators

During his meetings with top US senators in Washington on Tuesday, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry stressed the urgent need to push for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, protect Palestinian civilians, and ensure sustainable flow of humanitarian assistance into the war-ravaged Palestinian enclave.

The meetings took place at the start of Shoukry’s current visit to the US, according to Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.

Shoukry also reiterated Egypt’s outright rejection of any plans for the forced displacement or resettlement of Palestinians outside their own land, in flagrant violation of relevant international resolutions and the rules of international law and international humanitarian law.

He said Egypt expects the US Administration to stick to its previous statements against these plans that could lead to liquidating the Palestinian cause and exacerbating regional instability, warning about a spillover of the conflict into neighboring countries, Abu Zeid noted.
