The Journalist Syndicate Council has decided to boycott the prosecutor general’s office, refusing to file complaints or to appear before it in any case, “as long as the illegal status of Talaat Abdullah continues.”
The council called on journalists in its meeting, on Wednesday evening, to file complaints, if necessary, to the competent prosecutors and not to the prosecutor general’s office.
Its decision came as a response to the fact that complaints filed against the attacks on journalists covering clashes in the area around the Muslim Brotherhood headquarters, were not pursued by the prosecutor general.
The decision also comes in the light of a ruling by the Cairo Appeals Court reinstating former Prosecutor General Abdel Meguid Mahmoud and annulling current Prosecutor General Abdallah’s appointment Wednesday. He was appointed in November by decree by President Mohamed Morsy.
The Council called on the journalists of al-Dostour newspaper on hunger strike to postpone their strike until meeting with the chairperson of the newspaper’s board of management of the newspaper on Sunday.
