Less than 5 percent of registered Egyptian expats vote on constitution till mid Friday

Less than 5 percent of registered Egyptian expats have voted on the amended constitution till mid Friday, according to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Badr Abdel Aaty.

“The third day of voting (Friday) has seen a considerable increase in the number of voters, especially in Gulf countries”, Abdel Aaty added.

Egyptian diplomatic missions are scheduled to end expatriate polling on Sunday.

The spokesperson added that the process is running smoothly in all areas, except for Paris and Los Angeles, where a number of referendum opponents held brief protests.

There are an estimated eight million Egyptians abroad. The ministry had said that 681,000 of those are registered voters.
