Luxor residents celebrate Mawlid Sidi Aboul Haggag

Following the pharaonic style, and a few steps away from the temple of Karnak, thousands attended the final celebrations of the Mawlid ouled Sidi Aboul Haggag al-Oqsory Monday evening, in a procession that passed through Luxor's squares.

Representatives from different Sufi orders, and their followers, attended the celebration.

The ceremony always concludes with a procession known as the "Aboul Haggag march", which march resembles an old pharaonic ritual for the celebration of the ancient god Amon.

Celebrants gathered in the Aboul Haggag al-Oqsory Mosque's courtyard before kicking off the march throughout the streets of the city while chanting religious songs.

The celebration included dancing on horseback, as well as camels, and dancing with the use of wood sticks.

Thousands of Luxor residents, as well as people from neighboring governorates, concluded the celebrations of the Mouled Sidi Aboul Haggag Monday evening. The Endowments Ministry in Luxor established a pavilion in the Aboul Haggag square amid a festive atmosphere. The governor of Luxor, Mohamed Badr, Major General Hossam Manawy, the head of the Luxor Security Directorate, and other security, public and executive leaders in the governorate also attended the celebration.
