Ma’zoun arrested after suspicion of allowing child marriages

Prosecutors in Gharbiya, East Tanta, released a Ma’zoun – a person legally authorised to conclude Muslim marriages and divorces – with a bail of LE 20,000  over suspicion of approving marriages for minors.

The unnamed Ma’zoun, 43, resides in al-Mahalla al-Kubra city.

He was arrested and found to be in possession of 93 forged marriage contracts he concluded over the past year.

The Endowments Ministry initiated an investigation into the incident after the suspect was released on bail.

If found guilty, the appropriate penalty will apply to the Ma’zoun, said the undersecretary of Gharbiya Endorsements Department, Bakr Abdel Hady.
