Minister: Fuel smart card system to be applied in April

The cabinet has decided to apply the new fuel smart card system in all governorates starting April, Planning Minister Ashraf al-Araby said.

Speaking to Al-Masry Al-Youm, Araby said the system is already fully implemented in Port Said, where fuel cannot be provided without the smart cards.

The minister declared the government's intention to launch a campaign within a few days to urge citizens to use the cards starting April. The number of those who obtained their cards reached 2.5 million citizens.

Araby expected the new system to enhance Egypt’s stance in international reports. He attributed Egypt's Fitch Ratings upgrade from "B-" to "B" to the reform measures recently implemented by government.

The government is willing to resume its reform plan, which will address the economy as well as the standard of living, the minister said.
