Minister opens Cairo Airport museum Monday

Antiquities Minister Mamdouh el-Damati will inaugurate the Cairo International Airport museum on Monday.

According to the minister, the new museum will host a selection of 38 ancient items from the Egyptian Museum in downtown Cairo, the Coptic Museum and the Museum of Islamic Art.

"The existence of the museum at the airport will help boost transit tourism as it hosts unique pieces that represent different stages of Egyptian civilization,” el-Damati said.

The items include a statue of a Fifth Dynasty inscriber, statues from the Greek and Roman eras, coins and decorated plates dating to various periods of Islamic Egypt, said Ilham Salah, the head of the ministry’s museums sector.
