Ministry of Electricity: More than 50% of power plant maintenance completed

Engineer Gaber Dessouky, chairman of the Electricity Holding Company, said more than 50 percent of the maintenance required for power stations has been completed.

“We will continue to work in full swing to complete the rest so that we meet the summer high consumption,” he said.

Dessouky explained that the main problem is the shortage of natural gas or alternative fuels.

Regarding the reducing of loads at certain times due to high consumption, he said that this does not happen often. “Sometimes we need to reduce 500 MW or 1000 MW per day,” he said. “Only once did we reduce more than 2000 MW.”

With regard to the recent conferences on energy topics that were held in Cairo, he said they discussed renewable energy alternatives so as to rationalize consumption. “The whole world uses coal as an energy source for power plants,” he said.
