Morsy’s planned visit to China ‘historic,’ says ambassador

Beijing — President Mohamed Morsy’s visit to China, scheduled for the end of the month, will be significant and historic and will reflect the special relationship between the countries, Egyptian Ambassador to China Ahmed Rizk said Tuesday.

The trip will highlight the eagerness of both nations to promote ties both on official and popular levels, Rizk said during a press conference.

He noted that the visit comes in response to an invitation made by Chinese President Hu Jintao, adding that Morsy was anxious to put China at the forefront of his foreign tours despite his busy schedule.

Morsy is expected to meet with the president, Vice President Xi Jinping, Prime Minister Wen Jiabao, Parliament Speaker Wu Bangguo and other senior officials. He will be accompanied by a high-level ministerial delegation, as well as businessmen in the fields of energy, agriculture, communication and other sectors that will be the focus of increasing ties with China.

Morsy’s busy agenda prevented him from attending the opening session of the recent Forum on China-Africa Cooperation held in Beijing, but he sent his foreign minister instead, the ambassador said.
