Official election results to be announced Thursday

Abdel Moez Ibrahim, the head of the high elections committee (HEC), is to hold a press conference on Thursday afternoon to announce the results of the first phase of elections conducted over the past two days.

A statement issued by the HEC said Ibrahim will announce the winners for single-winner seats as well as the candidates who will face run-offs.

Ibrahim is to also announce vote counts for party lists, with final winners being announced at the end of the third phase of elections scheduled for January.

Vote counting began in the presence of parliamentary candidates, their representatives, and judges after ballot boxes were sealed on Tuesday.

To avoid the circulation of false information, Ibrahim called on judges and the media to refrain from announcing the results until they have been officially announced on Thursday.

Media sources are circulating news that early indicators point to substantial gains for the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party.

Indicators also show the Salafi Nour Party doing better than liberal parties.
